What do you think?
I really don't think that there is any way to be opposed to this that doesn't come down to, at it's root, bigotry and fear. There is no argument against that doesn't boil down to the belief that all Muslims are terrorists.
Land of the Free.
Simple. It ain't my country. But I wouldn't say a damn word if it was.
americans are terrorists too. we just don't know about it, or don't care to realize.
Why is there a problem with a mosque in NYC? Does its proximity to Ground Zero draw attention? Link, plz?
its important to note that all americans and doubly so Ny'ers are neurotic.
Quote: Here you go. Billy #3 @Sun, 06-06-10, 06:21AM Why is there a problem with a mosque in NYC? Does its proximity to Ground Zero draw attention? Link, plz? I should have known you all are too reasonable to be upset about this. I read another forum site, one that is 99% populated by women, and they are all "This is mean!" "It's so insensitive!"
Fucking birds, 'this is so mean.' If anything, if you believe all Muslims are terrorists, at least we can figure that the spot is not likely to get hit again.
I'm not a particular fan of religion in general, but one of the fundamental differences between Christianity, Islam and Buddhism is that two of the three were not founded by a murderous paedophile who put a whole region to the sword and then encouraged his followers to continue the tradition. Whereas Christianity and Buddhism (and other religions) later had their dark periods, at their core they actually are peaceful religions. Since Day One, right to this present, Islam has rubbed everyone the wrong way.
Someone wanting to tone down Christianity can always play the "What Would Jesus Do?" card to defang the arseclowns in the movement. Playing the "What Would Mohammed Do?" card is an entirely different matter, which is why reforming the two religions is fundamentally different. Europe has seen the effects of Islam within its society -- Theo Van Gogh, Pym Fortuyn spring to mind -- and how tolerant Islam is. I think that America should protect freedom of religion, though it may come to regret that as its liberalism is turned againt itself. It's a dilemma for any liberal society. That said, I think concerns about Islam are overblown. At some point in the future, the world will move from oil to something else and then most of the Islamic world will see how arsebackward it really is -- and the narrative of the West trying to keep the Islamic world down won't help the Islamic world explain, or compete against, the rise of east Asia. I think Islamic terrorism is actually the beginnings of the religion's end as people in Islamic countries are having to choose between living in the 7th Century or the 21st Century. Frankly, the sooner we can all move off oil, the sooner we can stop being held hostage by these Dark Ages clowns and force them to compete in the free market of ideas where it's more important to actually get off one's arse and innovate and work hard rather than kneeling on a rug five times a day, praying to an imaginary playfriend and his psychotic inventor.
I agree with shorbe completely.
They should build it 3 blocks away, or in Jersey, then it would be OK.
Then one day, when Islam or Christianity no longer exist, it will be a great shopping center, or museum, because Jersey needs more museums.
